What customers have said

Six comments, each numbered and each linked to the service it refers to. Between them they cover what the crew is asked for most often: planting, stonework, paths and seasonal maintenance.

We had a strip along the front walk that had been patchy lawn for as long as we had owned the house. The crew set every plant out on the ground in its pot before a single hole was dug and asked us to walk the line with them, which is how we caught that two of the shrubs would have blocked the mailbox. The bed was mulched and edged the same afternoon, and the price matched the figure agreed on the first visit.

The slope behind the garage had been washing soil onto the driveway every spring. The waller was straight about what a dry stone wall could hold before any digging started, which meant a lower wall than I had pictured and a longer one. The price was written down on the site visit and did not move. The wall has come through a thaw without a stone shifting, and it looks as if it has always been there.

I booked a single maintenance visit for an overgrown garden that came with a house, expecting a pitch for a full redesign. What I got was a list instead: the hedge could be cut back hard now, the shrubs by the porch should wait until after flowering, and the beds needed weeding more than replanting. I took the hedge and the beds. It was done inside the two hours, and every clipping went away on the truck.

I had never paid for landscaping before and did not know what to ask for. The questions came the other way round instead, about where people actually walk and where the snow gets piled in winter, and the answers decided where the path went. Nothing was added that I had not agreed to first. The prices published on this website matched what I was quoted in the yard, which is not something I can say about every trade.

The contact form asked for the type of property and the result wanted and nothing else, and the reply came back with a question about how much sun the yard gets rather than a sales pitch. I also liked that the site never pretended a visit had been booked. The beds themselves went in within a day, and the paths between them were mulched instead of left as bare soil, which I gather is the part that usually gets skipped.

Garden design was outside anything I had dealt with before, and I met the designer with a folder of magazine pages and no vocabulary at all. The designer talked through what the site would and would not support in plain words, then put two realistic plans side by side rather than steering me towards either. The decision stayed mine. The garden built from the plan matched the conversation closely enough that I have since sent two neighbours to the same crew.

Ask about a garden

A description of the site and the result wanted is enough to start. The crew replies with the days a site visit can be made.
