Asked often

Questions, answered in full

Grouped by what they are about: the services themselves, getting in touch, and the practical business of turning up.

In this column

  1. 01ServiceThree questions about choosing a service, what each one costs and what happens if one does not suit.
  2. 02ContactThree questions about messaging the salon, asking for a stylist and changing a time.
  3. 03PracticalTwo questions about turning up on the day, the patch test and what happens to the contact form.

Service

Which service should be chosen?

Length, finish and colour decide it. A cut on its own is the cut and finish, a finish on its own is the blow-dry and set, and anything that changes the colour is the gloss and toner for tone, the single-process colour for one shade root to tip, the balayage for hand-painted lightening, or the colour and cut if a cut is wanted in the same sitting. Describing the hair in a message gets a straight recommendation back.

Are the listed prices final?

The listed price is what the counter charges for that service, and all six are printed on the services page rather than quoted on request. Where a price is marked “from”, it moves with the length and the density of the hair, and the figure is said out loud and agreed after the consultation and before anything is mixed. Nothing appears at the counter that was not said at the chair.

What if the chosen service does not suit the hair?

The stylist says so and names the one that does, before starting. That applies at the chair and in the reply to a message. Nothing is begun on a service that will not work and nothing is charged for a service that was not carried out.

Contact

Does this website book an appointment?

No. The Book action opens the contact page and the contact form sends a message that a stylist reads during opening hours, and neither one holds a chair by itself. A time is reserved only once the salon has replied and the day and the hour have been agreed, so a message sent at midnight is answered the following working morning rather than booked overnight.

Still not answered here? A message describing the situation reaches a stylist directly. Open the contact page and a stylist replies during opening hours.

Can a particular stylist be requested?

Yes, and naming the stylist in the message is the whole of it. If that stylist is not working on the day being asked about, the reply says so and offers the days they are, rather than quietly putting the appointment with somebody else. All four take every service on the board, so being offered a different chair is never a downgrade.

How are changes and cancellations handled?

A message through the contact form or an email as early as possible is all that is needed. The salon asks for as much notice as can reasonably be given so the time can go to somebody else, and it does not charge for a cancellation.

Practical

What should be done before the appointment?

Any colour service needs a patch test taken at least 48 hours beforehand; it takes five minutes at the salon, it costs nothing, and it is booked rather than skipped. Otherwise nothing is required and nothing needs buying. Arriving with the hair dry and worn the usual way genuinely helps, because the stylist can then see how it actually falls rather than how it falls ten minutes after a wash, and the shape is set up around that.

What happens to the details in the form?

The name, email address, telephone number and message go to Wilder & Ash Hair Salon so that a stylist can reply, and they are not used for marketing unless the subscribe form was filled in separately. The privacy notice sets out how long they are kept and how to ask for them to be deleted.

Talk to the salon

A ninth question is welcome

Anything not covered above reaches a stylist through the contact form and gets an answer during opening hours.

The column

A short note when the salon changes something

Holiday hours, a stylist joining or leaving, a price that moves. Two or three notes a year and nothing else.

The privacy notice explains what happens to the address.
