The room, the light and the equipment

Eight photographs with a factual caption on each. They show the studio a sitting happens in. Every one is a real photograph; none is a generated image, and none is presented as a set delivered to a customer.

  • A darkened studio with a white cyclorama wall lit by overhead lamps and a softbox on a stand.
01 A white cyclorama wall and overhead lamps give an even, neutral background that keeps attention on the face.
  • A black studio backdrop flanked by two softboxes on stands above a swept white floor.
02 The dark backdrop between two softboxes is the setup used when a brief calls for higher contrast.
  • A colour-checker chart standing on a studio floor under even lighting, used to set colour before a sitting.
03 A colour-checker chart is photographed at the start of a sitting so skin tone is measured rather than estimated later.
  • A softbox, a white chair and a laptop set up as a temporary portrait studio in a large panelled room.
04 A softbox, a chair and a laptop are enough to run a sitting away from the studio on a team roster day.
  • A portrait studio with a painted landscape backdrop, a white bench and a reflector lamp on a stand.
05 A painted backdrop and a single reflector lamp: the oldest arrangement in portraiture, and still the one a headshot uses.
  • A working studio with a rail of rolled paper backdrops along one wall, a black curtain drawn beside them and a white cyclorama sweep at the far end.
06 Rolled backdrops on their rail, a black curtain and the white sweep beyond. The colour behind a headshot is chosen here, before anyone stands on the floor.
  • A shooting bay with a white paper sweep, two octabox lights on stands and an overhead lighting rig.
07 The main shooting bay with the white sweep rolled down and the overhead rig loaded. Most sittings are lit and framed from this spot.
  • A black softbox with a strobe head mounted at its centre, carried on a stand in front of a plain white studio wall.
08 A softbox on its stand with the strobe head at the centre. This is the key light for most sittings, set close and just above eye level.

A question about a service, a sitting or a price

The contact form takes a question and sends it to the studio. Book goes to the arrangements page; neither one confirms a time by itself.
